One of the best protection for undesirable outgoing data transfers and to check what is going on your computer is Little Snitch, a reasonable extension of the Mac OS X internal security system. The simple tool informs the user reliably if a program tries to establish a network connection. The user can then allow or deny the connection or add a permanent rule for similar future connections. Uncontrolled transmission of information - i.e. to the producer of a program - is being avoided that way. DVDRemaster is a great utility for Mac OS X to recompress large DVDs so that they fit on standard DVD5 or you can export to your video iPod or iPhone. It can either copy an entire DVD and keep all tracks, copy the main feature only, or (in the Pro version) copy selected audio and video tracks only. FairMount is a tool that allows decryption of DVD content on the fly for a convenient access. FairMount does not perform the actual decryption, it simply forwards the data to VLC Media Player which is used for decryption - thus, VLC Media Player must be installed for FairMount to work. Both programs are quite easy to use with a lot of different settings, depending on what you need to do. Pacifist is a very useful application that helps you to check, like a detailed scan image, before installing what and where is going to be installed on your computer. It opens Mac OS X .pkg package files, .dmg disk image files, and .zip, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, and .xar archive files and allows you to extract individual files and folders out of them. Just drag an installer package onto the Pacifist icon: you will see a list of all the files in the package, organized by the target installation directory. You can also get detailed information about each file: its permissions, size, and file type. This functionality alone can be very helpful for previewing installations. But Pacifist's real power is that it lets you verify installations and extract or install any file from within a package. For example, if you recently updated OS X via an installer package, and now you're having problems, open that package in Pacifist and click on the Verify button. Pacifist will check to see whether all files are installed correctly and have the right permissions, and it will provide a full report of the results. Discrepancies may indicate an installation problem, and reinstalling might fix it. This is useful, for instance, if an application which is installed by the operating system becomes damaged and needs to be reinstalled without the hassle of reinstalling all of Mac OS X (for example, if you had accidentally deleted Preview and wanted to reinstall it, but not the whole operating system).

Test: Clicking test will test the vulnerability to the exploit. It will do no harm to your computer, and will just run the ls command in the terminal. If you see the ls command running in the terminal, you are vulnerable. If you see only a help viewer window, you are no longer vulnerable to this particular exploit.
Restore: This will restore your configuration from before you clicked Patch. Whenever you click Patch, backup files are created, so they can be properly restored when you click Restore.
